My new toy

Postby Kahless » Mon Jul 14, 2014 12:58 pm

Got this last Saturday as an early birthday present :) To replace my lousy Asus Transformer Infinity. The display screen on this Galaxy is out of this world! The blacks are like REALLY black.
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy ... 700NTSAXAR

I got a really nice case for it plus a 128gig SDXC card for it. Its a high speed card too so that I can rip my blu-rays to it and it is fast enough to play them. I also got this headphone amp for it. It will ensure I have enough volume to drown out airplane engines when I'm flying. I always find no matter what I have I can't hear the movie, tv show, or music over the jet engine. http://www.amazon.com/E12-Blanc-Portabl ... B00B6QXWIY

I'll sell it to you for twice the price! It went up in value!

I bought it at Best Buy and they wanted to know if I needed classes on it. I hadn't heard of such a thing! Said they do tablet classes 3 days a week. Crazy!

I will give you less than half of what you paid for it my fine feathered friend!!   Don't you know that electronics lose half their value once they are purchased and are considered "used"!!??

8.4" screen!! How much bigger will these tablets get I wonder... that is awesome but there has to be a limit somewhere ( where the device is still considered to be "mobile" and "portable" that is ).

So Worst Buy is now offering computer "classes" on how to use their new-fangled tablets eh? I imagine it to be much like this:

But you should attend these "classes" at Worst Buy, great chance to meet technology-challenged chicks/babes/fine females and get hooked up my friend!! :scout: 8)

I think my wife would have an opinion on that! I think if I was single I would stay single who wants to try to date someone in this crazy day and age?!

My old Transformer was a 10 inch and I always felt that was to big. My wifes 2013 Nexus 7 is 7" and I felt that was a bit to small. I think 8" is perfect.

I can't imagine what Worst Buy would teach in these classes. Probably for people that have no exposure to technology I'm guessing.

I hear ya Bro!! 10" is too big for most women, glad you have found a compromise and settled on about 8" then!

There is a Worst Buy not too far from here, if the classes are free, I think I will sign up/attend one of them and report back to you all here! :scout:

That Samsung tablet looks great :licks: , but won't you miss having a full sized keyboard?

Hummm, upgrading my good old Asus Transformer TF-101 was among my plan when we'll visit Cape Cod. The Pad still running fine and taste great, but the batteries are slowly loosing ground. I do think that the keyboard is one of the greatest feature of the Asus Transformers pads. About 17hrs total battery life, 2 full size USB ports, a full size SD card slot  just writing about it makes me laugh and want to slap my co-worker's face  ... loosing these features would be pretty sad :sniff:

One thing is sure tough, I'll stick to Android OS :scout:

i am lately getting interested in getting note3 phone but have heard too many negative feedback about it. Then there is another story about a new firmware fixing a good chunk of them. why the interest? well for tasks note taking, a device I would carry everywhere with me, a phone, and something that I can write on instead of having to type at a snail pace or be a bit more "free" in the content i can add.

being a
- features aware: stops me as there are numerous downfall to handwritten notes (edit is painful) and may soon lose interest in the device as a note taking one
- "smart" spender: stops me from buying one now given that just in a matter of couple of months there will be a new model launched
- cheapskate: stops me from blowing $500+ on such a niche [note taking]

In a bigger format I am looking at Surface Pro 3 vs Note 10.1 2014. Both are great for what they can do but both have their downfalls too. SP3 is bloody expensive and to me if I get a Windows system then I want something powerful enough to replace my laptop [ie > 4GB ram] but M$ wants $1300+taxes for that. f* that. Note 10.1 really becomes just a tablet as there are no Windows software and i would be left with two "devices" to cater to my needs.

I will wait as I have for a better device to come out by end of year as I am not in any rush.

Nah I don't do any actual work on it. Like I'm not going to even set up Exchange on it because its for entertainment I don't want work emails constantly popping up. After my Transformer I don't think I'll buy another Asus tablet even though my wife's 2013 Nexus 7 is a pretty solid tablet. The Infinity looked like it had good specs on paper thats why I became an early adopter of it. Didn't take long to realize the whole thing was gimped. Having to sit and wait for everything to happen was ridiculous. Plus the screen on it compared to many others made it look like it was old 1st gen LCD technology.

I just read about the Note 4. Seems the only major difference is that it will have an eye scanner for security. Silly feature really for most people. I would just wait for the Note 4 to be released and the Note 3 should have some nice discounts. Or if all your interested in is note taking a cheaper 7" tablet might work best. I think the stylus will work with any tablet.

Many of the cell phone carriers last year had some crazy good discounts on phones for Cyber Monday.

Hammer_Time: You are the master of the internet meme! You have a meme for every topic and occasion! You have meme's for your meme's. In fact you could probably give up the english language and entirely communicate through meme's and nobody would ever notice! You would be like Hodor on Game of Thrones but instead of saying Hodor and everybody knows what that means you would just show a random meme and we would all know what your saying.

Thanks Kahless, yes I do love the memes, I like to communicate through pictures and jokes whenever possible... Technology can be so "impersonal" at times, that I like to "keep things light". :D

Image

I like your idea of communicating solely through memes... instead of shortening phrases down to acronyms on social media ( terms like brb, lol, fml, smh, yolo etc. ), why not get rid of those too? Words are sometimes overrated, so only communicating through memes might not be a bad way to go, might give it a shot here.

But now, we must get back to the topic at hand here! :

Uhhggghh I got screwed on my SD card for my tablet. Doing a search for what type of card it took only said SD Card. It even says in one place on the samsung spec page "SD Card". So my 128 gig sd card came in yesterday I went to put it in and discovered it is a freaking MICRO Sd card! So now i'm stuck with this $120 SD card that is good for nothing. All the reviews I read for this tablet never once used the term micro SD card. It was always SD card or SDXC card.

Bullseye!

It´s sad though, i hate it when specs for something aren´t clear enough. :(

I'm going to see if the place I bought it from will exchange it for a MicroSD variety but I doubt they will.
