That is seriously exceptional. My mom´s fibernet still beats you, but not by all that much(OTOH, she pays less for it than i do for my 10/10 thanks to the great package deal with digital TV).

I get 11/11 with 9ms ping. Nothing amazing. I wish i could afford to go back to my previous ISP, but sheesh, their price for a 10/10 is 349/month compared to the 199/month my current ISP costs. OTOH, i usually got 12-25 down and 15-90 upload speeds when i ran on that ISP...

Yeah I didn't think these speeds could come out of a cable modem. I have the same internet provider as my work and I pay about $70 for 7 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up with no caps on data. I can get 20Mbps down and 4Mbps up for the same price but it comes with a monthly data cap which i'm not interested in constantly checking where i'm at. I'm good with 7mbps. My online gaming pings tend to run about 75ms.

Docsis 3 can get up to around 1000 Mbps

My provider (Shaw) offers up to 250Mbps

That pricetag is what it would cost me to get 100/100(or better) from the best ISP here.
My mom could get Gb/Gb for less than that.

My online gaming pings tend to run about 75ms.

Yikes. That´s not too far from what i had at best with dialup.

I am still on dialup...

Please say you´re joking HT?

I live in a rural area so there are not many options. Verizon DSL, Northland Cable, or Wi-Max antenna, Wild Blue Satellite, Hughes Net Satellite.

You could probably just use a Proxy service. Mine makes it look like I live in Canada, the pirating hub of the world!

Re: Internet speeds

Postby Hammer_Time » Sun May 11, 2014 9:55 pm

Canada is no longer the leader in internet piracy ( it used to be really bad until just a few years ago but ISP's sent out lots of "warning" emails telling us all to stop it or suffer the consequences which helped reduce piracy a bit, not stop it, but just reduce it ). They shut down isohunt which was a huge torrent site hosted in Canada and other torrent sites globally, about the only thing left is the The Pirate Bay ( hosted in Sweden and redundant routers around the world now ) of course...which they can't shut down no matter how hard they try...

We ( Canada ) were only #4 on this "Top 9" list of internet piracy ( by country ) but that was only for MUSIC ( they did not factor in movies and other stuff so keep that in mind too ) back in 2012:

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/09/20 ... 99752.html

#1: USA
#2: England/UK
#3: Italy
#4: Canada

So it is a myth that Canada is the #1 country for piracy online, it was bad a few years ago but today there are many countries that dl more crap than we do... just sayin...still happens but we are somewhere in the middle of it all now...

China, and very poor countries are pirating SOFTWARE more than ever these days:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/0 ... 63006.html

The top three countries with the highest piracy rates [software] are Venezuela at 88 percent, Indonesia at 86 percent, and China at 77 percent.

Internet Piracy: Why Australia Leads the Pack

TorrentFreak also reported that Australia had the highest number of downloaders per capita, with the U.S, Canada and the U.K following respectively.

Actually I have 30/2 Mbps Rogers Cable internet here, pay too much for it but it is rock solid reliable at least. :D

You could add some 100% legal share to make it look better...
For example, i share the CDs that came with the hardcover books by David Weber (isos can be found, also 100% legally, at fifthimperium.com ).

They shut down isohunt which was a huge torrent site hosted in Canada and other torrent sites globally

Well that lasted all of a few days. Someone had made full copies of the site and there´s now a isohunt.something up and running nicely.

about the only thing left is the The Pirate Bay ( hosted in Sweden and redundant routers around the world now ) of course...which they can't shut down no matter how hard they try...

They´re trying pathetically hard. And during the current rightwing government, well they´re so totally stooges for the copyright mafia that it´s sad.
However, most ISPs here refuse to give out IP data without there being an ongoing criminal investigation about something much more serious, a few ISPs have simply stated that they will not give out IP data regardless.

And the EU edict to force all ISP and phone operators to retain such data for 2 years, well lets just say that compliance is on the minimal side, at least one ISP has gone to court over it for being illegal.

Torrents are excellent for sharing legal material. Like i said, i share a bundle of legal material on torrents.

Ah yes well i DID already know that, i just avoided giving the whole adress so siteowners wont feel like they have to censor it.
