Titanfall

Postby Kahless » Wed Apr 16, 2014 11:38 pm

I've been waiting for the price of Titanfall to come down a bit before buying a copy. I just wasn't willing to pay $60 bucks for an online game only. It used to be online was just an extra feature of a game to get more longevity out of it. Not the sole feature of a game. Anyways, I picked it up for $45 because I did enjoy the Beta of it. I wanted a physical copy because I didn't really want to download the 48gb install file for it. Stuck my copy in my LG Blu-ray reader/dvd burner drive and it started to read and brought up the autoexec.bat setup file and all of a sudden my drive started making this horrible noise like an orbital sander was running. I hit eject really quick and checked out the disk and it destroyed the disk. Somehow the drive failed and damaged the disk while it was spinning. So my hopes of not downloading the game were destroyed as I am now downloading it and I payed $45 for a cd-key. What a bunch of horse shit. TitanFAIL before I could even play it.

The original DVD drive in the Xbox 360 used to do this too ( scratch discs because tolerance was too tight for the laser r/w head, it would actually contact the game disc and put deep scratches in it thus ruining it ).

Replace your LG BluRay drive immediately so this does not happen again... should still be under its 1 year warranty right?? ( unless your TitanFail BluRay disc has a bad warp in it or similar defect )

No the blu-ray drive is probably 3 years old. I'm going to dry another disk in there that I don't care what happens to. Took about 7 hours for the 48gb to download.

I'm not sure why, but I can't help but read the name of the game and dropping the f as Tit-anall. Since the day I first say it, thats what I thought it said. Some sort of mental block, I guess....

Sigmund Freud would probably have something to say on the matter.

Haven't had much luck yet being able to play the game. Launched it for the first time and it made it as far as the EA logo screen and it crashed to desktop. I did a fix file integrity with Origin and it found errors with the installation of the game. So it had to re-download a bunch of the game and fix it. That worked and the game launched. But now it is having a hard time finding players. Like it doesn't put anyone into a game currently running it finds people waiting to play and starts creating a 6v6 game where you sit in a waiting room waiting for the servers to find 12 people. I left it for there for 30 minutes and it never found more then a few people. It would start to get 4 or 5 people out of 12 total needed and people would log off suddenly and it would have to start all over. So far its looking like a big waste of $45.

Sorry to hear. I refuse to give EA money after being burned repeatedly.

Not surprised, Titanfall crashed the Xbox Live servers on launch day lol!! I am sure M$ is working on a fix but will probably take weeks or months before game plays perfectly... am sure it will, just need the patience of a Jedi to get there...

That comic strip is pretty awesome!
My local stores have had stacks of ps4 and xbones from day one. And a big display of titanfall copies for xbone that don't sell. my local gamestop doesn't even carry pc games. They said nobody buys them. Not a lot of gamers where I live.

PS4 ships 7 million worldwide, outsells Xbox One in Europe 7:1

Update, 4/18/2014: Microsoft has finally released updated Xbox One sales numbers, and has stated that five million Xbox Ones have been sold to date. Meanwhile, earlier this month Sony reached seven million PS4s sold — not just shipped — and the sales gap between the two consoles has been growing. For more details, head over here. When we checked in with the PS4 last month, Sony managed to sell six million units since the console’s mid-November release last year, which was one million units ahead of Sony’s own estimate. Just one month later, more numbers have been revealed: Sony has shipped seven million PS4s worldwide, which is about three million more than the Xbox One. At the end of the day, a four-million-unit gap isn’t too gigantic. However, when compared with, for instance, the PS4′s sales compared to the Xbox One’s sales in Europe during the month of March — an eyebrow-raising seven to one lead — a different story is told. That 7:1 sales lead accounts for (more or less) the last week in March, beginning on the 17. During that period, the PS4 sold 180,000 units, while the Xbox One only managed 25,000. Unfortunately for Microsoft, the Xbox One’s biggest game, Titanfall, released just one week prior, and did not appear to help sell the console just one week later. Of course, seven million units compared to four million units isn’t anywhere close to a death knell for the Xbox One. Whenever this console cycle winds down, the final figures for both the PS4 and Xbox One might be the same. For the majority of last generation, the Xbox 360 had a significant lead on the PS3, and for similar reasons. Sony botched the PS3 launch in a variety of ways — the console was gigantic, came out too late, and was too expensive. Microsoft didn’t botch the launch of the Xbox One, but definitely botched the reveal. However, in the end, the PS3 and Xbox 360 were neck-and-neck in sales. It’s entirely possible that Microsoft’s botched Xbox One reveal will eventually wither away, and the console will catch up when all is said and one. For now, though, Sony is enjoying success, and Microsoft is sitting in the strange dual-state of succeeding while losing. The next stage in the battle will begin when both consoles finally have more triple-A exclusives.

PS4: 7 million units so far

Xbone: 5 million units so far

PS4 is killing Xbone in European markets! 8)

I read a review the other day can't remember where but they built a $450 AMD Kabini cpu build with 750Ti and it was a pretty solid gaming PC that knocks the socks off a PS4. With the new Geforce drivers that compete with Mantle it really made the low end CPU and 750ti shine quite a bit at 1080p. Something the PS4 and Xbone struggle with.

True, but peepz love their consoles, they just want to buy a gaming console and the game and get gaming with no muss or fuss...cost be damned for the most part... all about convenience, game controllers, etc.

"Real Men game on pc's" - well yes this is sort of true, but not everyone wants to buy/build their own gaming pc, even though you can buy a better gaming pc for the same money as a console these days... there is still huge demand for consoles though, as the latest PS4/Xbone sales figures prove...
