Watch Dogs

Postby Kahless » Sat Mar 08, 2014 3:31 pm

So its too early to say for sure since the game isn't out but some of the newest gameplay footage shows the game being significantly "dumbed" down in the graphics area. That it looks nothing like what was being played at E3. Watch Dogs was delayed a while back for unknown reasons. It is rumored that upon finding out how low the specs are on the PS4 and Xbox One they had to go back and re-write part of the game to lower the graphics to be playable. Hopefully that doesn't mean PC gamers will get a "dumbed" down console version. I saw another rumor that internal employees and Ubisoft are pretty scared right now after the backlash from fans they are receiving for the recent gameplay footing looking so dated in graphics. If this is what they have truly done then what do they expect? They get everyone all hyped up for this game with its uber next gen graphics and huge system requirements to just let everyone down. I guess we will see in May. Its sort of like when the Wii U was first announced and there was the tech video of that amazing looking Zelda game. And we ended up with Windwaker HD. Which is a great game don't get me wrong but it isn't anything like that tech video we thought we were getting.

I was preparing my wallet for a new video card. But if the game's visuals are not top notch and is able to run on my 5870, then fine by me. I learned the hard way never to get my hopes high again when coming to a pc game.

You might wait. I would say if the current system requirements for it stand then get a new video card but if they end up changing them because they re-wrote the game to be less visually impressive then your current card might work for you depending on how anal you are about being able to have all the special effects turned on. I have watched the latest game play videos of Watch Dogs and it looks like a game made in 2009.

Did you mean this video?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z3iG2QlJXk

That is the game demo running on a PS4.

Looks like total shit compared to this earlier demo video ( assume demo was running on a pc of course, not console! ) about a year prior to the one above!! :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcMRkyoHKeA

Ah yes, that is exactly what happened! Proof:

My God that PS4 version looks HORRIBLE!!! 2007 graphics!! :fist: :moon:

Yeah doesn't it look terrible! Most comparison videos out right now of other games that compare PS4 and PC you have to at least spend a minute noticing the differences. This just sticks out like a sore thumb.

And yeah they tried to fool people into thinking the original E3 demo was running on a PS4 because the person playing had a PS4 controller in their hand. They later admitted that it was a PS4 controller hooked up to a PC.

Graphics themselves don't necessarily break a game but when they pull this bait and switch bullshit that's when people start to judge your game solely on the graphics and not the gameplay. Oh well I guess we just have Witcher 3 to look forward to for some next gen graphics.

Yep, I couldn't believe till I saw the side by side ( or more accurately, "overlaid" ) video images of the developers kit pc version demo video vs the new PS4 demo videos for this game... just horrible textures on the PS4!! :fist:  :incoming: :x

I'm just hoping that is what they had to do to it for the PS4 and the PC will still look like the developers kit version or better. The PC really is the only way to unleash the full power of the dark side :)

I've got friends working on the game, I'll ask what's up with this! Since Watch Dogs was developed for the new gen consoles, it should look very good; at least as good as Black Flag did in the "real world" parts.

Do tell!

Oh and Witcher 3 has been delayed until Feb. 2015. So now we don't have that one to look forward to its next gen graphics for another year

Cool, thanks... not all of the PS4 video looks "bad" , just aliasing issues and the horrible, horrible textures for the most part, lack of defined shadows and lack of light reflection especially on character's clothing etc. ( as compared to the earlier pc demo video that looked worlds better )

I could be wrong but I think this is the first open world game for ps4. Maybe that has something to do with it. Not enough vram or something
on the ps4 that open world games need more of.

Looks like the PC master race has nothing to worry about. We get better graphics then E3 and more ammunition to make fun of PS4 and Xbone! Its turning into a really good week all around

On a side note is anyone even buying Xbone's out there? I see my local stores have loads of them every time I go in. The shelf is empty of PS4's all the time though.

As promised, here's a little buyers guide to Watch Dog (from UBI inside source):

PS3: It's ugly and for now also buggy. It will stay ugly (probably the footage found online).
PS4: Was built to look spectacular on new gen consoles. Will look great on PS4
Xbox One: Should look even better than on the PS4, a little more eye candy here and there
PC: please refrain yourself from liking your screen; saliva can potentially be harmful for your screen antiglare coating.

Cool thanks!

Just curious how were they able to pull of making it look better on the Xbox One then the PS4?

Sweet, thanks!! As Kahless said, I too wonder how the Xbone version could possibly look even better than the PS4 version when the PS4 has a stronger gpu in it??? Perhaps there are other factors at play here, but based on gpu spec's alone ( I realize the XBone 8-core Jaguar cpu is clocked at 1.75 Ghz compared to same cpu clocked at 1.60 Ghz in the PS4, but surely that cannot overcome a stronger gpu in the PS4?? Weird.. )
