[Solved] WinXP Driver for HD7790/emulator with good directx

Postby sevendp » Mon Jul 15, 2013 2:24 am

Hi all

I'm back again with some problem
*back here, only when got problem*
sorry ...
:P

it's about my HD7790, all working well on my Win7 x64.
but i need *desperately* WinXP 32bit driver for it
because i have some *very good* child's games (educational games) that only work on WinXp ...

i have tried WinXP mode, Virtual PC & Virtual Box, but still no luck for running these games.

any other ways i should try ?

thanks
:)

As we all know from previous thread, Daamit has never released an official Windows XP driver for their new HD 7790 card, only Vista or higher OS.

However, there is one small chance to get your Sapphire HD 7790 card working with proper XP driver, I found it here on Diamond's website:

http://www.diamondmm.com/7790pe51g-diam ... -card.html

DIAMOND AMD Radeon™ HD 7790 PCIE 3.0 1G GDDR5 Multi Display Video Graphics Card

Bus Type: PCI Express 3.0 x16 | Part Number: 7790PE51G

Operating System : WIN 8, WIN 7 32 , WIN 7 64, WIN VISTA 32 , WIN VISTA 64, WIN XP , WIN XP 64, MCE

Yes, I know it is a different brand of card from yours, but the hw specs should be identical or "close enough" for your Sapphire card to take the Diamond 7790 Win XP driver.

OPERATING SYSTEM TYPE VERSION DATE UPDATED CONTENT DOWNLOAD

WIN® 8,  WIN® 7 32 ,
WIN® 7 64,   VISTA® 32,

WIN® XP,WIN® XP 64 SOFTWARE FULL

Just select the correct red "download" button beside WIN XP and you should be good to go then...

Best of luck and let us know if it works or not!! Very curious here...

I noticed this store also says the Diamond 7790 supports Win XP:

http://www.microcenter.com/product/4128 ... Video_Card

Supported Windows Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8

Hope they are not lying and it is not a misprint!!

Edit: VisionTek also says they have a Win XP driver for HD 7790, get it here:

http://www.visiontek.com/support/downloads/drivers.html

filename: Cat13.4_XP.zip

145.45 MB in size

PowerColor also lists "XP" drivers for their 7790 card here:

http://www.powercolor.com/Global/produc ... cification

I am starting to wonder if these drivers are the XP drivers for HD 7750/7770 cards, and that these manufacturers are simply assuming the latest Catalyst XP drivers will also work for HD 7790 cards ( WRONG!!! ).

I will be shocked if any of these actually work for you, but worth a try at least...

Edit 2: Looks like all those sites above are "lying" about XP support for 7790 in Cat 13.4 :

Posted: 02.05.2013 19:41 • Info

I'm not too lazy to download the XP drivers 13.4 and view the inf file, according to information from TechPowerUp , dev-ID of the HD 7790 corresponds to 665C, ??and in the inf file for the Catalyst 13.4 for XP does not.

- Added after 5 min 20 sec -

dev-id 7790 in Catalyst 13.4 XP is not, so Catalyst 13.4 for XP does not support Radeon HD 7790!

Translated from Russian, but you get the idea in the last sentence... no go!! Sorry...

Solution: buy cheap old used laptop or tower ( Pentium 3 or 4 class ) for dirt cheap ( under $50 ) and install the XP games on that for your daughter... :scout: :D

If your motherboard has 2 video card slots you could also try adding a cheap second card that supports XP. You would have to swap cables to your monitor, unless it has 2 inputs.

What about a PC for those kids? Need not to be an expensive one..

My thoughts exactly...easy and cheap solution, with added benefit: If kids spill jam or drink on the second used cheap XP computer and "break it", your main rig remains untouched and running! 8)

Good thought, but he has cheap G41 chipset mobo with only 1 video card slot on it. He does have onboard video but would have to go into the bios every time he wants to boot into xp ( boot menu of course ) and enable the onboard video, then disable the 7790 card through Windows Device Mangler in order for it to work. Very unappealing solution tbh.

VERY unappealing. I would go through lengths to prevent that.

Ah, I assumed your mobo had onboard video, but you have P41 chipset ( no onboard graphics ) instead of G41 chipset ( "G" for onboard graphics ). My bad...

Good to hear from you Sevendp! Post when you have the time/energy to do so, best wishes for your daughters Baby Luvey and Charlotte! :D
