SB Recon3D Soundcard - Optical in and audio out question

Hi all. I've recently installed a Sound Blaster Fatal1ty Recon3D soundcard into my system. It's working perfectly but something I noticed that didn't occur to me before is the optical in/out jacks in the card which got me thinking . If I were to connect my PS3 to the optical-in port with an optical cable and use the 3 line-outs for my speaker system, can I get my PS3 to transmit audio through the speakers or do I have specifically have to use optical-out (which I do not have an AV receiver for) to take advantage of my speaker system with my PS3? Thanks.

If the PS3 has optical out, and your soundcard has optical in, I'd say the PS3 sound should be channeled through your soundcard to the speakers connected on the card..

Regarding your question, yes, it should work.... PS3 to optical in, then out to your stereo system...just have to use the Creative sw to select the Optical In as the sound source in Windows... I have not tried such a setup but I don't see why it would not work...

Thanks Leprekaun... you didn't really do anything wrong tbh, but if everyone put links like that in their siggys the forums would become very hard to read and confusing, and it opens the door to "spamming" ( where a new member might hide a spam link in their siggy ). I realize that was not your intent, you were just trying to advertise your used parts, but am sure you understand where we have to be careful here and not send the wrong message to other members about proper use of a siggy...thanks again for removing your links..
