Windows 8

Windows 8 interface demo video @ Betanews

Seems like Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10 will both support touchscreen, it's a nice touch

Would be kind of cool if regular 'desktop' screens had touch integrated.
Even if it was initially made for tablets this is a tech that might trickle up. 8)

Post more Win8 news if you hear anything interessting

Wow, I'm amazed that my windows 7 touchscreen works at all . . ., or my Vista one . . . I laugh at Apple/Android/Blackberry/Palm tablets because for years I;ve had a proper computer with a touchscreen interface . . . you know, one that runs real apps, not crapplets . . .
You don't have to be a megalomaniac to moderate this forum . . . but it helps!

lol Celt, yeah well I did suspected that it worked on ye olde Windows also, thought how many % of screens for desktop are touch right now.. can't be that many.

This new interface is made from the ground up with touch in mind.

I kind of wish that my recently ordered 120 Hz screen would have had touch after seeing this demonstration. I tend to buy a good monitor and then its the least updated component... think my current one was bought maybe 7 years ago.. so a replacement is due.

Saw the video last week and I was very impressed. I already had positive feelings with the Windows 7 Phone tile interface, it was very snappy to me when I played around with my friend's Samsung Windows 7 phone. Glad to see it on a tablet fleshed out more.

We can call it the "Groper" interface.

Win8: A beginner's guide to FondleWindows - The Register, 8th June 2011

Some links regarding the new filesystem, will have to read them later..
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/microsoft/the-mystery-of-windows-8s-new-protogon-file-system/9567
http://www.windows8update.com/2011/06/01/windows-8-new-file-system-protogon/

Is this "Protogon" a polished read *finished* version of WinFS ?
WinFS (short for Windows Future Storage) is the code name for a data storage and management system project based on relational databases, developed by Microsoft and first demonstrated in 2003 as an advanced storage subsystem for the Microsoft Windows operating system, designed for persistence and management of structured, semi-structured as well as unstructured data.

But in November 2006, Steve Ballmer said in an interview that WinFS is being actively developed but integration into the Windows codebase will come only after the technology has fully incubated. It was subsequently confirmed in an interview with Bill Gates and that Microsoft plans to migrate applications like Windows Media Player, Windows Photo Gallery, Microsoft Office Outlook etc. to use WinFS as the data storage back-end.

Have been looking into the Kinect Sensor SDK at the moment which has for those unfamiliar with User Interface Design an NUI (Natural User Interface). Its fun trying to conceptualise new ways for doing things and being able to mix voice recognition and body movements into design for an application.

I suspect there will be, but in the business sector I think people may just use it in the traditional kiosk model.
